Small businesses make up over 99% of all UK businesses and account for over half of business turnover and employment across our country. These enterprises contribute immensely to our local communities in West Dunbartonshire, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

The Small Business Saturday campaign helps encourage local people to spend money with their local small businesses. The UK Government is backing small businesses and the self-employed by tackling the scourge of late payments, creating thriving high streets and making it easier to access finance. In particular, the newly Labour UK Government increased the employment allowance from £5000 to £10,500.
Labour is also encouraging private investment in small businesses and startups by extending the Enterprise Investment Scheme and Venture Capital Trust schemes.

Small businesses can employ up to four full-time national living wage workers without paying employers National Insurance on their wages, and we will also continue to fund key business support provision like growth hubs and the British Business Banks Small Business Loans Programme.
As the Member of Parliament for West Dunbartonshire, I will always champion the needs and contributions of small businesses within our constituency.
