About Me

My name is Douglas McAllister and I am the Member of Parliament for West Dunbartonshire.

I was elected by my constituents as the Labour party MP in July of 2024. I was born in Clydebank and still live in Hardgate with my wife Alison and my two sons Tom and Peter.

Previously, I represented the areas of Duntocher, Hardgate & Faifley as a Labour Councillor for 21 years. During this time, I also proudly served as Provost of West Dunbartonshire for 7 years.

As Provost, I enjoyed working closely with community groups and launched the Provost Civic Pride Awards to recognise ordinary people doing extraordinary things to benefit the community and its people.

Prior to being elected as an MP, I worked at an award-winning law firm in Glasgow. For over 25 years, I represented clients in courts throughout Scotland.

I recognise the concerns of our community, namely that our area is missing out on much needed public investment in our infrastructure. I pledge to work with our local community and residents and use my legal expertise and local government knowledge to stand up for our communities’ interests.

I have always strived to improve the lives of families by focusing on the issues that matter such as education, healthcare, housing, and the economy. As your local MP I will continue to do so.
